For about a month I was completely without internet, without any way to post reviews or really anything else. Today I finally was able to get it installed (all the paperwork and scheduling took way longer than expected here in the land of Japan.
You should be seeing the reviews that I am in need of posting, though due to the fact that NaNoWriMo is coming up, I'll be reading a lot less this upcoming month and instead writing :D
I'm also going to Tokyo for a once and a life time performance (Sayumi Michishige, from Morning Musume '14's Graduation Concert).

Update: I'm back~!
I have officially climbed Mount Fuji as of now and can get back to my regularly scheduled book reviewing updates!
If anyone's wondering about the climb, I did it all in one go with a friend. We started the hike at ~8:15 and ended at 7:15, so all together it took around 11 hours.
One of the coolest moments of my life.
I already want to do it again.
I'm also done moving (though I am living a no-fridge life at the moment). And have a temporary internet set up, so my updating schedule should return to normal.

Update: Mt. Fuji Hiatus for a few days and then back to Normal
Okay, maybe my full hiatus isn't going to be truly long enough to garner anyone's attention, but it's so I can go climb Mt. Fuji and I'm so excited about that I have to share it EVERYWHERE.
In other new however, I also have borrowed the internet (mobile internet for the win) from a friend until I'm able to get some installed in my new place (or buy a mobile internet for my own, haven't decided yet, need to price quote it). This means that as soon as I get back from Fuji (on Thursday), I will be 100% back to my normal posting schedule.

Update: Moving Apartments~!
So, posting reviews has taken a little bit of a hit for me right now, but there is a very important reason...
I'M MOVING APARTMENTS! YAY!
I have been working hard to secure a new apartment for the last couple of months and now it is officially mine and I have a couple of weeks to move all of my stuff.
Needless to say, I'm a bit busy.
There is also one other thing. My new place... it won't have internet until at least August 14th (unless I borrow money from someone to get it set up). So... even though I will be reading and writing reviews, I may not be able to post them up for a while.
I may schedule up a few while I still have internet (and a couple of blog tours as well), but the speed will obviously go down for a couple of weeks.
So... consider me on a sort of semi-hiatus.
And wish me luck with OPERATION LIVE WITHOUT TRUE INTERNET (because phones don't count).

I have a Confession to make.
That sounds rather dramatic, doesn't it? It's nothing bad though, just an update about my personal life that I thought might be interesting to share.
A while ago I mentioned my struggle to get a job and joked about shipping myself off to Japan.
Well... about that... the joke sort of became... a reality.
Since August of last year (2013), I have been living and working in Osaka, Japan! I am an Assistant Language Teacher (if you know the JET Programme, that's pretty much what I'm doing) for Elementary School. Hurrah! It's pretty exciting. And I can't believe it's almost been a year already.
What's great about my job, however, (other than my awesome kids) is that I am left with a lot of freetime between classes. I mean hours of freetime even after I finish making lesson plans and preparing materials for upcoming classes. And, I am allowed to read during this freetime (although I only realized it was okay, recentely).
My Kindle and I have become best friends to say the least, and this blog has become very active!
It feels great to have time to read again.
P.S. If you guys ever have any questions about Japan, feel free to ask! I may not have all the answers, but I can try.

Update: Books To Read, Reviews To Write, 時間がない
Yes, I threw up some Japanese there, watcha gonna do?
Okay, I'm done (cough). I just wanted to update saying that I'm still reading and I'm still reviewing, but due to work, a test I've been studying for for a while (the Japanese Language Profiency Test is this Sunday, gah), and trying to set myself up as a graphic design freelancer so I can get more experience and get myself a 9 to 5 job (or ship myself to Japan whichever happens first), I have had no time to really indulge and obsess and post all over this blog, which makes me sad since that was one of my favourite things about having a blog, but the reading and the reviewing will forever continue!
So really this update is about what's to come withing the next couple of months review wise from me:
First of all I am a few chapters away from finishing Alternity by Mari Mancusi so that will most likely be the next review up. After that would be Marking Time by April White, which I am a little more than halfway done with (I need to stop simultaneously reading books). After that I have the two new Karina Halle books (the next in Experiments in Terror and The Devil's Metal which sounded way too interesting to pass up). I also have Florence by Ciye Cho that I was asked to review.
So that's about five books I have on my plate (two almost done with and I'm hoping to have reviews up within the next two weeks). And I think I have about two more reviews saved from before, so even though I'm not posting a lot of fun extra things, the reviews are still coming.

Update: A few changes that pretty much have nothing to do with most of you, and a random scribble!
For most of you this really doesn't mean much since you just check out the blog, but I thought I'd let you all know.
One of my biggest goals as a reviewer is to review not only books that are coming out in the YA world, but older books that people missed out over the years, or ones that haven't had as much hype about them that I have loved. Due to these factors I end up with a lot of reviews to do, which is a bit masochistic of me, but I do want to share them.
ANYWAY! Enough rambling and I love you all to pieces (and the review archive has been updated with all 100+ reviews)

A Midsummer's Night Giveaway: An Introduction
Fairytales have captured the world for ages. Classicists put them in the same categories as Myth, Legends and Folklore with similar reoccurring themes and use as both explaining nature and teaching lessons.
The most famed collection of fairytales is that of the Grimm Brother's. Their collection of tales include oral folklore, previously published and popular tales (Rapunzel being an example), and stories that they even wrote themselves. Many of the tales had gruesome bits to them, as was the style of tales such as them.
Most of what Western Society thinks of when they think of fairytales are those collected by them. Other tales however are for the most part from the European region, some possibly originally written by authors, others a version of a oral retelling.
The tradition of retelling tales and putting one's own spin on them has never died down, even in modern society. The biggest example is that of Disney, who starting with Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, created a legacy of fairytale retelling. There were many novels that set out to retell the tales as well, in the late 80's and early 90's there was a boom where several fairytale adaptations were published in a collection.
Once again, however, fairytales are starting to regain their popularity, more coming out every year (the big one this year of course being Cinder). This is especially true in the age group of Young Adult.
Which brings us to my focus this Midsummer Week. I adore fairytales, completely obsessed, I am slowly but surely making my way through most of the YA retellings that are even available out there. This week for example I'm reading a version of "Red Riding Hood" by the name of Sisters Red, a version of "Toads and Diamonds" called Once Upon A Toad and then finally a free-for-all retelling by the name of The Grimm Legacy.
I wanted to spend this week discussing the different ways YA authors adapt fairytales, the tales that are the most common (Did you know there are over five versions of "Twelve Dancing Princesses" that have been published of late?). The posts will be focused on each of the five prizes winners will be able to choose from.

Wednesday: Focus on Wrecked by Anna Davies
Thursday: Focus on Toads and Diamonds by Heather Tomlinson

These five books are so incredibly different and at least three of them rank a some of my all time favourite books that I have ever read.
As I post about these Rose over at The Cosy Dragon will be posting some posts and reviews related to fairytale retellings (and fairytale inspired books).

Update: A Study of YA Fairytales
Hello everyone! I just want to make a quick announcement since plans I've been making have just fallen into place.
During the week of Midsummer/Summer Solstice I plan to hold giveaway and talk about the popularity of fairytale adaptations in Young Adult. As you all know very well I love YA Fairytales and read them often (and review them often as well), and I love sharing them with the world, so it's only fitting that my first giveaway relates to that. I mean, my header is an imagined version of Thumbelina for goodness sakes!
It's also fitting to have my first giveaway around then because it will be right before my 3 month anniversary (which seems to be a big milestone in the Book Blog Community as it separates the consistent bloggers from the rest).
Now, the reason why I mention it now, a little more than a week ahead, is because I wanted to open the discussion part of the giveaway up for other blogs to take part in too, I'd love for the "Midsummer Night's Giveaway" to be more than just A Journey Through Pages. You can post up my giveaway (and I'd include following your blog as a requirement) or have your own, but mainly I'd love for you to post your own thoughts on YA Fairytale Adaptations or even just Fairytales in general and your experience with them (or about a specific one you love). My personal focus will be on the different styles and ways authors adapt the books (using the giveaway books as examples).

Update: There and Back Again
Hello followers and readers old and new!
I am absolutely exhausted from driving my soul to bits and pieces but I'm back to having computer access so I can post up the many reviews I have backlogged (I wrote five before I took off). I'm also super excited because I had a very successful library trip in which I just happened to find a bunch of books I'm excited to read by browsing AND while I was gone I was able to receive my signed copy of Bitterblue by Kristin Cashore, which I am so ready to read. The illustrations are absolutely gorgeous!
I also have two netgalleys to read (Glitch and Throne of Glass), and pretty much I'm hoping that I'll have tons of time to read this upcoming week so that I can read everything I want to.

Update: The Art of Procrastination
Hey guys! So instead of writing the five reviews that I have planned out, I ended up finally updating the blog template to be my actual artwork and put some effort into design (though the main chunk of it is thanks to parajunkee designs). There are still a few kinks to work out (And I need to make it a bit wider for 3 columns, but overall I'm pretty happy.
I also decided to switch from showing what I was currently reading to the books I have reviews done for, finished the book and plan to write the review soon, and currently reading books that will be reviewed, that way if someone sees a book there and I don't review it there is no false hope.
In other news, the blog tour is going great and I'm enjoying each new post Ms. Halle puts out. I also cannot wait to share my On Demon Wings review because that book knocked my socks off.

Update: A Journey Through Keeping up a Blog
I have not written an update in a long time, so I thought I'd write one to catch all of you up to speed.
First of all the Read-a-Thon was an absolute blast, though I was such a crabby patty after work on Sunday due to lack of sleep. I then spent a couple of days away from books recovering and now I'm getting back into the swing of things. I ended up winning two mini-challenges and getting gift cards that will be going towards ore books, yay!
Of course due to having two part time jobs, I have no life, thus the reading is slowing down a bit. I do have six reviews in archive ready to post so I may end up putting those up as I catch up.
Speaking of my book reading rate, I have passed my 100th book for the year! Slowly, but surely, it seems as if my "A Book a Day" goal might be possible.
Author Spotlight will be switching soon from Maria V. Snyder due to the great news of being a part of newest Experiments in Terror's book's blog tour! I plan on rereading all the books in that series and posting reviews before my review for the blog tour has to go up. On the side bar there is a link to it which will show you that on May 6th I will be putting up a guest post from Karina Halle, the author, and May 11th will be when I put up my review. This is my first blog tour, and hopefully far from my last, so I'm super excited.
The last note is that during my next day off I plan on finally getting my blog design up, it is becoming really imperative that I get a 3 column layout as I seem to be adding widgets all over the place, also I have the design all ready so it's silly to not get it ready and up.

Update: Dewey's Readathon
As Dewey's Readathon is coming up in well one and a half days I thought I'd share my book list with everyone. This is my first time participating so I had fun trying to strategizing which books and what books to read to maximize my staying awake and engaged capacity, considering I have no idea how I'd do that, there was a lot of guessing involved (a lot of I KNOW I WILL BE GONE FOREVER WITH THIS BOOK moments).
Bloodborn throughThe Son of Neptune are the books I'm choosing to read while the last four are books I will re-read in between if I feel myself losing interest in the other books. As for right now I plan on reviewing four in the list.
As for how much I plan on participating, I know I'm going to be there in the beginning and I'll be there at the end (right before I have to run off to my second job). I plan on taking two nap breaks midway through (I want to see what the mini-challenges are before I figure out when, but beggers can't be choosers) since I have been threatened to have my books taken away if I don't sleep before going to mentioned second job on Sunday. I might also have to pop into first job if they need me (I was getting begged to come in), but I'm hoping it'll just be books, books, books.

Update: Once Upon A Time...
...I finally created an archive page for all my book reviews. Look up there, it isn't perfect, but it will get you places now that I have 20+ Reviews
It's been a busy week! I haven't gotten any new visual elements done, but I'm reviewing at a pretty fast pace, mostly because I'm reading at a fast pace. If you've been keeping track of my "Currently Reading" Widget to the side then you know that books sometimes appear there for only a few hours, as right now I have a tendency to be obsessive with my reading. No this will not last forever, but let's enjoy it while it lasts, eh?
Which brings me to another fact, also if you've been keeping track of what books I'm currently reading there is quite a gap between when a book is finished and when I update the review, this is because I've been keeping a pad of 5 reviews before updating any new reviews, this way once I do start slowing down when it comes to reading I'll have a few more weeks of reviews if I space them out nicely.
Oh! I am now also officially participating in Dewey's 24hour Readathon! I cannot participate the entire 24 hours (I have 7 hours of work on Sunday and I don't think my employer would be very happy if I feel asleep on the drive to work or during work), but I plan on being around and updating for most of it. I've been reading tip pages and starting to accumulate stacks of books of various types that I can jump around to stay awake, if anyone has participated in the past, feel free to share any tips you have.
Finally all reviews are mirrored on Goodreads (click on any of my widgets to find and friend me on there) and linked from Tumblr and Twitter, but sometimes there may be a lag between posting them up here and there, so the best way to keep updated on when I post reviews is to follow me.

Update: The Art of Reviewing and Reading
Good Evening, Good Evening my dear readers (Or Good Morning/Afternoon depending on when you read this and where you live).
I have just posted up my 12th review and as you can see I'm varying up the format a bit. Expect me to be going through and editing the earlier reviews to be put in similar format. I just had to get rid of highlighting for the spoilers, I like this little expand button much more, what about you guys?
Other design plans looming in the future are: Designing a banner, Editing a different Blog Design (I love this one, but I'd rather one more customized to me and I am a Graphic Designer so I should be putting some more effort than I have I think), and making bookmark icons for the rating.
Other news that I have is that I have decide to participate in Waiting on Wednesdays. I happen to have a great many books I'm waiting on and I want to share them with you all. I also have decide to attempt to participate in this April's Read-a-thon; just gotta make sure I get that day off from work.
Finally, as you can see on the widget to the side, I have a current 2012 goodreads goal of 300 books, I am only 3 books behind on this goal and truthfully I'd like to up it. Ladies and Gentlemen if I can catch up to 300 books rate within the next few days I am going to up my goal to 365, this means I will have read 1 book everyday for 2012. Will I be reviewing every single book I read? Probably not. I will more than likely be reviewing most of them however.

I have just posted up my 12th review and as you can see I'm varying up the format a bit. Expect me to be going through and editing the earlier reviews to be put in similar format. I just had to get rid of highlighting for the spoilers, I like this little expand button much more, what about you guys?
Other design plans looming in the future are: Designing a banner, Editing a different Blog Design (I love this one, but I'd rather one more customized to me and I am a Graphic Designer so I should be putting some more effort than I have I think), and making bookmark icons for the rating.
Other news that I have is that I have decide to participate in Waiting on Wednesdays. I happen to have a great many books I'm waiting on and I want to share them with you all. I also have decide to attempt to participate in this April's Read-a-thon; just gotta make sure I get that day off from work.
Finally, as you can see on the widget to the side, I have a current 2012 goodreads goal of 300 books, I am only 3 books behind on this goal and truthfully I'd like to up it. Update: The Book Reviewer and the Introduction
Hello the few people out there who have come across this modest Book Review Blog. I have just recently started it, but I hope to continue it for a rather long time. As you can see I've already posted about seven reviews as a bit of a grand opening. I have a few more waiting to be posted as well, so for a few weeks at least you can be guaranteed fresh updates about twice a week. (I'm looking at Tuesdays and Saturdays for now, but it depends on how much time I get to read).
Three things have prompted the creation of Journey Through Pages
1) The Goodreads challenge I started to read 250 books this year (I am at 68)
2) The gaining of a small fund I could dedicate towards books and a library card
3) The lack of people to talk to about said books that I have been reading.

1) The Goodreads challenge I started to read 250 books this year (I am at 68)
2) The gaining of a small fund I could dedicate towards books and a library card
3) The lack of people to talk to about said books that I have been reading.
So those three things combined with the fact that I have always wanted to start a book review blog have gotten me to get off my lazy butt and start writing reviews.
I really will pick up most any book though I tend to gravitate towards Young Adults of all kinds and Fantasies. Dystopias, Horrors, Historical Fiction and Romances are also on my to-read lists as well.
Also most of my reviews will be mirrored on goodreads.com and I'm currently getting a twitter set up so you can follow my twitter to get updates on when I put up a new review or update.
